TransFARMation - Growing Produce & Growing People
Solutions Farms is a laboratory for teaching important work values and preparing people for re-entry into the workforce. This is the social enterprise function; accomplishing a worthwhile social purpose while also being a functioning business.
Solutions Farms raises hope, as well as produce and is an entirely fresh take on sustainable living. Its holistic approach ensures the environment, the community and the Overcomers who maintain the farm can all thrive. By working on the farm, residents learn how to work on a team as strong employees—a skill that will help them maintain employment and avoid homelessness. The farm is truly the culmination of everything the Solutions team has learned about growing people while growing nutritious, organic produce.

Our First FarmIn 2011, we started our first aquaponics farm, that eventually became a 20,000-square foot, entirely self-sufficient farm outfitted with fish tanks, grow beds, water pumps and UV lights in Vista, CA. It had no soil, but rather nourished plants through nutrient-rich water that was derived from fish culture. The plants purified the water, which was then returned to the fish.

Our Main Campus FarmWe decided to move Solutions Farms to our main campus, to better serve our students and community partners. The farm will continue to be a central part of our program while allowing us to continue the operation more efficiently, more effectively and closer to home for our students. We remain committed to providing world class employment training opportunities to our academy students, and are excited to have two new hydroponic greenhouses on our main campus to utilize during our workforce training hours.
