Chris Megison
Chris Megison is a Marine Corps veteran and nationally recognized social innovator who has spent over three decades challenging the status quo on homelessness. His journey began in 1992 when he encountered a chronically homeless man known as “Wolfman” while volunteering at a soup kitchen. That moment launched a calling to a new battlefront: solving—not managing—the root causes of homelessness.
In 1999, Chris founded Solutions for Change, a nonprofit that has since transformed the lives of over 5,000 parents and children through a pioneering education and work-based model that replaces dependency with purpose. By rejecting Housing First mandates and focusing on long-term transformation, Solutions has helped thousands leave welfare, return to the workforce, and reclaim their dignity—saving taxpayers over $300 million in the process.
Chris has advised White House appointees on national homelessness strategy and was selected to lead a federal demonstration project in 2020 (later derailed by the pandemic). As one of the last major accountability-based models operating independently of Housing First in California, Chris made national headlines when he walked away from $83 million in government funding rather than compromise his mission. He also transferred three of his sober-living housing communities back to the state when they demanded those sites be converted into drug-allowing “low-barrier” projects.
Now serving as President and CEO of Solutions for Change, Chris is on a mission to reframe the national conversation. He challenges America to stop seeing the homeless as helpless victims—and instead invest in them as future victors. “The transformed can transform,” he says. “With hope, purpose, and the right interventions, the very people we’re trying to help can become the answer we’ve been looking for.”
Chris has served on many civic organizations and boards of directors, including Rotary International (20 years), the Vista Chamber of Commerce Board, and Vistage Worldwide. He currently sits on the Board of Altus Charter Schools and is a member of Convene.
Chris lives in Vista, California, where he attends Coast City Church. He is a proud father of two daughters and is engaged to Elianta, his partner in life and faith.
