These are the suggested support letters to be emailed to the Vista City Council members for the Tuesday Dec. 10 Vista City Council meeting.  Please feel free to change the letter to reflect your personal experience with Solutions for Change.

Letter 1

Mayor Judy Ritter and Members of the Vista City Council
City Of Vista
200 Civic Center Drive
Vista, CA 92084

Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,

I am writing to indicate my support for Solutions for Change and its proposal before the Vista City Council for the Solutions for Change Campus Expansion. The Campus Expansion will help Solutions for Change make further strides toward solving family homelessness. For the last twenty years, Solutions for Change has helped close to 1,000 parents and 2,500 children transform their lives and become truly self-sufficient.

Homelessness is a significant challenge today and cities must rely on programs like Solutions for Change to transform lives and return parents and families to stability. I am particularly interested in Solution’s work in empowering individuals and families, and to end their dependence on government assistance. Instead of touting the number of meals provided, people housed, or blankets distributed, Solutions for Change celebrates the number of families who are no longer dependent, and who have achieved permanent self-sufficiency.

Its work improves lives and solves deep poverty and, for these reasons, I urge approval of their proposal to expand their campus.

Sincerely,

Dear Mayor Ritter and Members of the City Council,

Solutions for Change has created an innovative and successful model of solving homelessness called Solutions University. Solutions University is a personal transformation academy that solves homelessness by addressing the root causes of homelessness. Through this approach, the organization has helped to permanently break the cycle of poverty, joblessness and substance abuse for 1,000 San Diego families over the past 20 years. With the Solutions for Change campus expansion, as proposed to the City of Vista, even more families will be able to overcome the scourge of deep poverty and dependency and become independent, stable, self-sufficient members of our community.

Solutions for Change was created to address a serious and a seemingly intractable problem – families with children that have no place to call home. They are sleeping in cars, or “couch surfing,” or in hotels. Research demonstrates the overwhelming stress, depression and fear associated with homelessness. There is a long waiting list of families waiting to get into Solutions for Change. By expanding their campus, Solutions for Change will be able to give more families the chance to permanently escape the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

I urge you to support Solutions for Change’s proposal to expand its campus. The expansion will create more affordable housing for homeless families, increased facilities to empower and increase the capacity of vulnerable parents, and improve the neighborhood. Please vote to approve the campus expansion.

With Regards,

Dear Mayor Ritter and Members of the City Council,

As you are aware, cities, counties and the state are all struggling to create more affordable housing, which is a challenge to approve and develop. One population impacted by the lack of affordable housing in our community are homeless and very low-income families.

Solutions for Change not only provides programming and services to help people find stable jobs and overcome the challenges that led to homelessness, they are also an excellent affordable housing provider. Solutions for Change provides support, education, and employment training to increase the capacity of vulnerable families to reduce their dependence on public benefits. Many of the parents served by Solutions for Change struggle with histories of substance abuse and incarceration that led to them losing everything. Now, as they seek to transform their lives, Solutions for Change is committed to supporting these families on their journeys to self-sufficiency by providing safe and drug-free housing.

Please vote YES to support Solutions for Change Proposed Campus Expansion and support the creation of safe, drug-free affordable housing for vulnerable families in Vista.

Sincerely,
