The Problem of Family Homelessness
Over 600,000 people in the US are homeless, 41% are families with children

How do we SOLVE family homelessness?

Solutions for Change Model

We solve it by ending “the Churn”

Many public assistance programs offer inadequate responses for family homelessness. Shelters, motel vouchers and even government subsidized housing provide a Band-Aid fix, but not a permanent solution–because it does not address or resolve the root causes of homelessness.

Homeless Children

We’re solving it for children

There are about a half a million children caught in the churn here in the United States, and unless we commit to solving it, these children face a greater likelihood of falling into the pattern of generational poverty and homelessness in the future.

The Solutions Model

Solutions for Change Model

A complete and permanent solution

Solutions for Change creates access to the right set of opportunities and then equips families with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to permanently solve their homelessness. The three pillars of our program are Solutions University, with its life transforming programs; Solutions Enterprises, a collection of social enterprise programs that empower residents to learn and earn; and Solutions in the Community, the investment by the residents of their time and effort to help the community of which they are a part.

Solving family homelessness through Servant Leadership

Solutions for Change equips families with leadership skills that serve as the foundation for future success. From family life to work life, participants in our program learn how to create meaningful relationships built on trust, honesty, respect and concern.

servant leadership

What is Servant Leadership?

Servant Leadership is best described as the desire and practice to inspire and equip those we influence. Through Servant Leadership, families value continual improvement in their lives and in those they influence. Leading by example through self-awareness, humility and accountability, families initiate change with courage, developing personal skills and strengths to positively influence others.

Solutions for Change Model

3x the results at 1/3 the cost

The Total Cost Of Public Support (TCPS) for homeless families includes two components: the financial cost and the human cost. The financial cost is not just the immediate cost of re-housing a family. It’s the cost of ongoing public support services, including repeat turns through the homeless cycle—”the churn.” Most important, however, is the human cost of missed opportunities in adults, and sacrificed futures for children, which fuels the problem further, creating future generations of families facing homelessness and poverty.
